Bovine Colostrum with 40% Immunoglobulin G, Sunflower Lecithin
Colostrum is pre-milk, i.e. a food that is produced by mammalian mothers immediately after birth. Referred to as “life’s first food,” mothers usually give it to their newborns in the days following birth giving newborns’ immune system their foundation to thrive. It contains proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals, and proteins (antibodies) that fight disease-causing agents such as bacteria and viruses. Antibody levels in colostrums can be 100 times higher than levels in regular cow’s milk.
People originally got interested in bovine colostrum because of the high antibody levels. They thought that the antibodies might prevent intestinal infections in people, but they seem to be wrong.
Some athletes use bovine colostrum to burn fat, build lean muscle, increase stamina and vitality, and improve athletic performance. Bovine colostrum is not on the banned drug list of the International Olympic Committee.
Bovine colostrum is also used for boosting the immune system, healing injuries, repairing nervous system damage, improving mood and sense of well being, slowing and reversing aging, and as an agent for killing bacteria and fungus.
Measures of quality and safety are taken throughout the stages of the food chain. Fertilizer suppliers to Muscle Feast's Colostrum Supplier do not use dicyandiamide. and do not accept feed treated with pesticide or herbicide residues. Estradiol and prolactin are also banned. All dairies that supply colostrum to our colostrum supplier certify that their cows are free from antibiotics, BSE, and hormones, such as rBGH and rBST. MUSCLE FEAST does not accept irradiated colostrum nor perform colostrum irradiation. Farms supplying our colostrum also feed their cows a diet of "in season grasses" when available and baled grasses when seasonal grass is not available.
What does the research say?
Colostrum is the first natural food produced by female mammals during the first 24–36h directly after giving birth. Chemically, colostrum is a very complex fluid rich in nutrients, antibodies and growth factors. In cows the antibodies provide passive immunity to the new born calf, whereas the growth factors especially stimulate the growth of the gut. The other antimicrobial components of colostrum include lactoferrin, lysozyme and lactoperoxidase. Bovine colostrum has also been used as a raw material for immunonoglubulin-rich commercial products (immune milk preparations). These products can be given orally to patients who are suffering infections of the gastrointestial tract or in order to prevent these infections. Several animal studies have shown that the growth factors in bovine colostrum, especially insulin-like growth factors, stimulate cell growth in the gut. Bovine colostrum is also known to contain insulin, transforming growth factor β and related growth factors, but their function in colostrum is not fully understood. Small amounts of these growth factors can also be detected in normal milk. Growth factors as well as antimicrobial factors of colostrum may be used as potential components in clinical nutrition in the future.
Who is it best for?
This product is often recommended by medical professionals to help heal the stomach. It may also help strengthen the immune system. It may also be good to help with recovery from illness or wounds.
How quickly does it digest/absorb and raise amino acid levels?
No research exists at this point showing how quick and how long protein blends elevate amino acid concentrations in the blood, but in theory, it should fall somewhere in the middle between whey and casein.
When is the best time to take it?
This product is best to be taken 2-3 times per day and spread out evenly throughout the day.
